You must have a Social Insurance Number (SIN) to work in Canada. It is illegal for an employer to hire you without this number. This number is also used when you apply for government services or pay your taxes. To apply for a SIN, you should go in person to a Human Resources Centre of Canada (HRCC). Use this Map to find the nearest HRCC. At the HRCC office, you will need to fill out an application form. You must also provide original documents that prove your identity and immigration status. When your application has been accepted, you will receive a card with your SIN on it.
