The Interview There are several publications, print and online, that can help you to prepare for an interview. Many websites can help you to work through and prepare for the interview process. However, a more useful approach would be to get tips andpractice your interview techniques before you go to an interview. Some interviews involve just you and one person from the company. At other times, you might be interviewed by a group of people. Depending on the nature of the job, you might be asked to prepare some work before your interview, or demonstrate a skill during the interview. Interviews can be very informal, just a conversation between you and the interviewer. At other times, they can be very formal, with a very specific format where all people being interviewed are asked the same questions. You may be told before you arrive at the interview what to expect, or you might find out when you enter the interview room. Being prepared for any type of interview is important, but can be intimidating. It is useful to spend some time practicing your interview skills and getting advice from people who know what you can expect. There are many community-based agencies that have job search programs and workshops that include interview skills practice. Many Settlement Agencies and Employment Resource Centres offer these workshops and can help you prepare for an interview. Having some practice before you go for an interview can help you to anticipate what an employer might ask you and help you have more confidence in your interview skills.
